ABOUT ME

A composer with an impressive musical vocabulary while maintaining a distinct sense of style, Sandro is dedicated to deepening his role as a musician and collaborator - creating music that is fresh, sincere, and captivating.  Sandro Manzon is a multi-award-winning Canadian musician/composer specializing in music for film, dance and the concert stage. Sandro's music has been screened at film and music festivals throughout Europe, Asia and North America.

 

He writes in a range of musical genres like contemporary classical, experimental, ambient, lounge-rock, traditional folk, among others.  He spent time working at the renowned Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavik, Iceland.  Working closely with composer Valgeir Sigurðsson, Sandro was transcribing and arranging the string orchestra for Sigurðsson's 2020 opera 'We Are in Time'.

Manzon is  one of the first generation of composers to take part in the International Master in Composition for Screen (InMICS) academic initiative.  This has provided a unique opportunity to learn from many masters of the film music world. This includes Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker), Max Richter, Carter Burwell, Howard Shore among others.

Specializing in contemporary classical and electroacoustic music,

Sandro has developed an impressive musical range while maintaining and developing his distinct sense of style.  Incorporating combined elements of structured improvisation, through-composed music and electroacoustic composition, Sandro has proved to create a very distinctive sound world in his music for screen and the concert stage.

Sandro studied composition (and composition for screen) in Canada, Italy and Belgium with notable composers such as Peter Hatch, Allison Cameron, Linda Catlin Smith, Rodney Sharman, Barbara Monk Feldman and others.  He has also attended workshops/lectures by renowned international composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki and Pierluigi Billone.  Sandro has spent time living and working as a musician in Italy, Belgium, Spain, Vietnam, and Canada - working and collaborating with renowned filmmakers, music ensembles, dancers and visual artists.
